Africans (on the continent and the diaspora) please share the scene in your city.

I'm curious to understand what people's current expensive is across the 52 African states on the continent, and all the countries and their cities, and for those living in the Diaspora.

Where are you hanging out? What films are you consuming or producing? What music, bands are you playing? Where are you getting your fashion?

Hello there, I am not a religious person myself, I was wondering about the Goth Subculture and the usage of the Crucifix as a part of fashion, what are your individual stances on it being worn within the scene?

I am not intending on starting a flame war in the comments, I am only curious as to individual feelings.

leaving the scene?

did anyone else have some urge and thoughts about just calling it a day lately?

i know it might be a weird place to ask but i am kind of lost at the moment. the gothic scene and subculture just doesnt feel the same anymore like it did 20 years ago in various aspects. i remember back in the day, you could go out and it was a very cozy place with nice people and it felt home and theres always someone talking to you. right now it does not.

when we go out today, the scene around the clubs feels very bizarre in a way. like as if you re physically there but everyone is just watching from far away distance. i rarely meet new people anymore either. its mostly the same people every weekend, everyone is inside their little bubble an rarely interested in new people so everyone just comes as a group and leaves as a group. it feels very cold and unwelcoming, and unhealthy. and if you re single ontop its also almost impossible to meet new people because well… its always the same people.

and its not just the people. also in terms of music. its the same music playing that was playing 20 years ago too because there is almost no new stuff. it almost gives me a feeling of running circles. its not going anywhere or evolves into something. been there, done that, same stuff over and over.

i honestly feel bored, a little exhausted, and kind of stuck. like as if as soon as you re inside the bubble, you re trapped and you watch the outside world go by and everyone around moves on and does new things and evolves and then you look around and nothing is moving or changing. black gets quite stale aswell.

my taste in music is quite varied tho and i dont experience the same type of feeling in other genres or subcultures. for example i can guarantee you, if i go to lets say a metal bar tomorrow or some sort of festival or go to some techno rave, i will meet so many new people every time that i have never seen before and talk to new people and most people will be very welcoming and interested in you and you can just have a good time. the opposite is true if i go to any of the goth clubs. you pretty much just go there to dance for yourself and then leave.

i kind of miss exploring things and the world around and meeting all sorts of people and trying new stuff out and going forward. even tho i will always carry some of the experiences and influences with me and some of the aesthetic influences will prob. allways be with me and some of the songs will always be in my playlists, yet i keep feeling that i dont really want to be part of the bubble anymore and take part with the subculture almost as if its holding me back going forward and most other parts of the world dont even exist inside the bubble because the entire scene is so closed of in many ways.

Predator warning: CA / Spanish / German goth scene

Warning to bands / DIY labels – ex member of a band called Dealer lying he’s associated with and part of bands / labels as an excuse to assault and harass women. Some decent sized labels and bands have come back to confirm he’s been lying so worth keeping an eye out for. Oakland based – believe he plays synth / guitars / “produces.” First name Aaron, and initials are A.C. Got ran out of the Seattle scene for something similar apparently. Also lied about associations with labels such as Static Shock in EU and was supposedly working with the goth singer Racquel.

My local goth scene has the friendliest people I’ve ever met. Is it normal for people to be this affectionate at goth clubs?

I started going to dark dance nights in my city few months ago. Whenever people of all genders come up to me or I go up to someone to say hi, they typically want to shake my hand or hug. A couple people have gently held onto my hand after shaking it, and it seems normal for people to hold hands or hold onto each other’s shoulders or waists while talking. I’ve even received kisses on the cheek and seen others do it to each other, and it just seems totally normal here. People are very free with complimenting each other on makeup, outfits, etc, and I’ve never received so many compliments in my life.

Some people ask permission before doing any of this, some don’t, but it doesn’t seem to be done with ill intent either way. Outside these club settings, I wouldn’t let anyone get so friendly, but everyone here just seems so chill and happy, I don’t mind it and know I can speak up if I do.

I’m just wondering if this is normal everywhere? I remember someone a long time ago who claimed to be a regular at these things talking about how people at goth clubs weren’t friendly and to just keep to myself lest I give the impression I’m looking to hook up, but I’ve had the opposite experience so far. People even share difficult things they’re going through to strangers, and we all hug and try to reassure each other that things will be okay. There’s also a wonderful overlap between the goths and board gamers in my area, but the goths are more likely to exchange contact info and show up to hangouts than other people I’ve met at game events.

Two Books that goes into detail about the Goth Scene in San Diego

Since my first time going to Sabbat back in 2022 to the newer Modern Wav events I am still genuinely surprised on how big the SD Goth Scene, I've made so many friends and while not Goth I enjoy everything from the Music to the Events to The People.

How can I find or get into my local goth scene?

Hello!!

For context I would consider myself a baby bat. I’ve been alternative for a while, recently diving into gothic fashion, music, literature, ect. While doing research I’ve seen a lot of people saying being involved in your local goth scene is important as well as supporting your local artist but, it’s been hard for me to find people and places to go. I also live in Las Vegas everything I seem to find is 21+ for the most part (I’m 20). Any help is appreciated:)

Who do you think are currently the largest acts in the Goth scene?

When I say the largest acts, I mean who would you consider to be the modern day Sisters/Siouxie/Cure etc, bands that define the modern day goth scene?
